Positioning Errors in Panoramic Images Based on the Dentition Type of Patients Referring to the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Department of Tabriz Dental School During 2017-2018

Background: Panoramic imaging is a technique to create images of facial structures. Various factors affect the preparation high quality and proper panoramic image, such as patient’s position. The aim this study was investigate positional errors in based on dentition type patients referring oral maxillofacial radiology department Tabriz Dental School Methods: This cross-sectional conducted Radiology Department 2017-18. Dentition (primary, mixed, permanent, complete edentulous) determined by radiography. 410 radiography per group (1640 samples) were selected from archives simple random sampling method. one radiologist evaluated all same condition semi-dark room, 21-inch DELL monitor, regarding presence each positioning errors. Radiographs that repeated due poor diagnostic classified unacceptable radiographic images. Results: In primary, permanent edentulous dentitions, not attaching tongue palate most radiographies, with 50.4%, 65.6%, 64.3% 64.8%, respectively. 2 (563 34.3%) had highest frequency. 123 radiographies (7.5%) free Primary 95 (23.2%) 29 (7.1%) lowest radiographies. Chi-square test indicated finding statistically significant (P <0.001). Conclusions: Positioning error has prevalence images, common which during primary period, number acceptable radiographs lower than other periods.
